about SLATE - THE GRANDFATHER CLOCK (DINKED EDITION EARLY DOORS)
A fixture of Cardiff’s burgeoning music scene, and heirs to their country’s lineage of great storytellers, Slate reimagine the gothic foundations of new-wave, charging their sound with melodic force and the white-knuckled intensity of post-punk.
Following their widely acclaimed debut EP, Deathless, the quartet return with a new EP, The Grandfather Clock, in 2027. Long influenced by greats of Welsh poetry including R.S. Thomas and Dylan Thomas, Slate present a body of work in The Grandfather Clock that’s woven to the core with themes of childhood, kin, nostalgia and
Welsh identity.
It showcases a band rapidly maturing and finding greater comfort in their own creative voice, while faithfully capturing the momentous energy of their stage show, which has seen them become a hugely lauded presence on the UK live circuit in recent years, opening for artists including Manic Street Preachers, The Horrors and Chalk.
Both The Grandfather Clock and Deathless, rich in nuance, storytelling and catharsis, show a band moving seamlessly to secure their place in a new pantheon of entrancing Welsh music.
